The Gantt chart displays the project's calendar plan as a set of parallel and sequential tasks. Tasks are represented on the timescale as segments, their beginning and end correspond to the planned start and end dates of the tasks. Each task is located on a separate line.
But Gantt charts are not perfect and all too often they become overly complex with too many dependencies and activities. This is a trap many new project managers fall into when they start using planning tools. It is much better to produce a clear and simple plan that shows the main work packages in summary, than a plan with so much detail the overall impression of project progress is lost

A Bit of History
The first similarity of the Gantt chart was developed by the Polish engineer Karol Adameski in 1896. However, he did not publish his chart.
Already in 1910-1915, Henry Gantt, an American engineer, developed his chart as a tool for visualizing processes. It was intended to determine the productivity of employees. His chart gained widespread recognition and popularity and was named after him.
Early Gantt charts were created by hand and drawn on paper. This made it difficult to use them. To make changes to the chart, the workers had to redraw it again. By now, there are many programs that can easily create, update, and print a Gantt chart.
Determine the schedule of your project: who will complete the tasks, how long it will take to complete them, and so on.
Determine who will be responsible for the tasks.
Visualize project activities to make the team understand what is happening on the project.
Monitor the project and make adjustments if necessary. The Gantt chart shows whether the project is going according to plan and makes it easy to make adjustments.
Display key project events (milestones).
Frequent updates and changes make it more difficult to work with Gantt charts offline. There is a risk of missing an important detail and causing errors. Therefore, project managers usually use online Gantt charts.
If you are running a large number of projects or a multi-level project, working with the Gantt chart can become more difficult.
